We know that making a change in your career can be a daunting time and that you may have many questions in deciding to become a traveling nurse, so we have provided some answers to our most frequently asked questions. Q. How do I become a Traveler with Prestige Travel Nurses?

A. The quickest way is to apply online by filling out our application and a specialty-specific skills checklist. The application will help us understand your skills and career path. The skills checklist will allow us to evaluate your qualifications and match you with assignments that call for your particular skills and experience.

Q. What are the minimum requirements to become a Prestige Travel Nurses traveling professional?

A. You must be a graduate of an accredited healthcare professional program in the United States or Canada. You will also need to provide a valid professional practice license or certification and proof of the right to work in the United States (if you are not a U.S. citizen). Current hospital experience of a year or more is required by most facilitates.

Q. Am I under any obligation after submitting my application?

A. Absolutely not. Your application is simply used to qualify you for positions so that we are ready to match you with an assignment when you decide you're ready to be a traveler with Prestige. Once you become registered, there will always be an exciting assignment waiting for you.

Q. When should I start preparing for my assignment?

A. This depends on you and how quickly you want to start working. You could begin your first assignment within one week or up to four to six weeks. Some travelers schedule their assignments four or five months in advance. Remember, there is no obligation so please turn in your application now and so you won't miss out on the next assignment.

Q. When and how will I be paid?

A. Every Friday for the previous weeks work. We offer direct deposit which is the easiest method while you are traveling. But should you wish, we will mail your check to you wherever you are.

Q. What pay will I receive?

A. Pay rates for nurse travelers vary by facility and location. Prestige does offer tax-free stipends as well which can add an additional 15% to your weekly paycheck. Please consult your representative for further information.

Q. Are bonuses paid on any assignments?

A. Yes, many of Prestige Travel Nurses assignments offer bonuses. These incentives usually are offered as a hospital completion bonus and are paid at the end of your assignment.

Q. What other benefits may I receive as a Prestige Travel Nurses traveler?

A. We offer an outstanding benefit program which includes free medical, dental, vision, life insurance ($25,000), professional liability and worker's compensation coverage to all of our employees. See our Benefits and Pay section for additional information.

Q. If I refer a friend to Prestige Travel Nurses, am I eligible for a referral bonus?

A. Yes, whether you are an active or inactive employee you will receive a $500-$1000 bonus after the referred employee works a thirteen week contract totaling 468 hours.

Q. How long are travel assignments?

A. Prestige Travel Nurses travel assignments are typically 4 to 13 weeks, but can always be extended if you prefer to stay and the client requests.

Q. What type of assignments are available?

A. There is a whole spectrum of assignments available nationwide. You specify the type of assignment, location, or season you are looking for and we will find it. Community hospitals in large cities, in rural settings; positions are available in almost all specialties and shifts.

Q. How do I choose an assignment?

A. Once a Prestige representative has reviewed your application, skills checklist, credentials and references you and your representative will discuss what you expect from your travel assignment. We will put together a list of appropriate assignments for you to choose from that best meet the unique requirements for your specific career path. You will also be given a complete description of the facility, unit, area, salary and available bonuses. You choose the assignment that's right for you. It's always your choice.

Q. Will you have the assignment I want?

A. Almost always. However, if we do not have the specific position in the location you want we will work diligently to contact facilities in that area to present your profile and search for an assignment which will meet your needs.

Q. What steps occur after I select an assignment?

A. A copy of your paperwork with your selected start date, unit and shift will be sent to the facility for their review. You will also receive potential times the facility will call you for a telephone interview. Prior to the interview, it is a good idea to prepare a list of any questions you may have about the unit in which you will be working.

Q. How long will it take to approve my application and find an assignment?

A. This will depend on you and how quickly you want to move. You could begin your first assignment within one week or four to six months of contacting us. Some travelers schedule their assignment four to five months in advance.

Q. Do I need to sign a contract when I accept an assignment?

A. Yes, your contractual commitment is one assignment at a time.

Q. How will Prestige Travel Nurses prepare me for my assignment?

A. Once you have decided on the assignment that is right for you, your representative will inform you of your start date, shift, unit and salary. You will then receive a confirmation packet via e-mail or fax with information pertaining to your assignment. You will also receive your benefit package. You may need to schedule drug screening as this required at some facilities. All you need to do is pack your bags.

Q. How do I find out about the licensing requirements for each state?

A. Your representative will advise you on the specific requirements in each state and the length of time necessary to obtain a license in the state you have chosen to take an assignment. For more information, check out our Resources section.

Q. What happens at the end of my assignment?

A. You will have an option to: extend your assignment, travel to another assignment, or return home, perhaps to travel again at a later date.

Q. Can I bring someone with me? Spouse, significant other, children, friends?

A. Yes! We choose your housing based upon your needs. Should you require larger housing than we normally provide, such apartments are available for an additional fee. Our housing coordinator will discuss your housing needs to evaluate what type of housing will best fit all of your needs.

Q. Can I travel pet?

A. Absolutely, we encourage you to travel with pets as this is a great way to further enjoy your travel experience. Most facilities will accept pets and a pet deposit may be required.

Q. What type of housing accommodations can I expect?

A. You will typically have your own free private, one bedroom, and one bath apartment. If you wish to share an apartment with another traveler, just make that request when speaking with your Housing Coordinator.

Q. If I don't use the Company's housing, will I receive a housing allowance?

A. Should you choose to arrange your own housing, stay with a relative or friend, you will receive a monthly housing stipend or subsidy from Prestige. The amount of the stipend is based on the geographic region of your assignment.

Q. Will there be a pool or fitness center?

A. Most of the complexes in which we house our travelers have extra amenities, such as a pool, fitness center, etc. Your Housing Coordinator will let you know the amenities available at your facility.
